Christmas in May?

Of course not!! I made this cake for Christmas 2008...

It started life as a rich fruit cake, which was marinated quite liberally for 3 weeks with brandy. The result was a scrumptious cake!

First off a layer of marzipan and then a layer of sugarpaste (fondant) which after being smoothed was embossed with some star shaped embossers on the sides of the cake, and with star shaped crimpers around the edge of the board.

I thought it looked a little plain all white, so I grabbed some blue lustre dust from my stash and started to brush it on. I also threw on some food glitter for that sparkly effect!

My 3D models were made from sugarpaste...

Frosty the French Snowman...

He's wearing a beret people! I ♥ him, he's so cute!

Then the big man himself - Santa Claus...

Again, made with sugarpaste, left to dry and then his white beard was piped on with royal icing.

Santa sans beard... and all shiny from a spray of vodka to get rid of all the excess cornflour!

I also made a whole batch of marzipan Christmas puds...

The pud itself was marzipan, coloured brown with cocoa powder and fashioned into a ball. I thinly rolled out some sugarpaste and cut freehand a blob of "cream" and attached it with a little water. I then used holly plunger cutters to cut out some ivy green coloured sugarpaste and rolled up tiny balls of red for the berries.

I plopped one onto the cake for even more Christmas goodness!

Crazy Cupcakes!

My sister and her boyf got engaged - she wanted crazy cupcakes...

...she got 'em... blasted with as many different sprinkles as I could find in my cupboard
(*^-^*)

She loves stars
☆ so I also made a batch of sugar cookies, which I decorated with icing and more sprinkles...

And I had bought a cute little star shaped cake tin from Wilko which she wanted to be bright pink! Cue more crazy sprinkles!

On plates and waiting to be eaten...

They were yummed up at the gathering we had to celebrate their engagement!

Mother's Day

I made this cake for a friend's mum for Mother's Day. He didn't give me much info on what he wanted - just said "pink with flowers"...

This is an 8" madeira cake filled with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream. I covered the cake with sugarpaste (fondant) which I coloured using pink food colour paste.

I used a smoother to erm, smooth down the top and sides of the cake and then piped a line of shells around the base of the cake.

I then applied (with royal icing) the gerbera daisies that I had cut out with a gerbera cutter in pink and white sugarpaste. I used a ball toll to soften each petal and curl them up slightly, and added a disc of yellow sugarpaste in the centre. I used a metal seive to give a bit of texture to them.

I also cut lots of little blossoms with a blossom plunger which I attached again with royal icing around the edge of the cake board and along the side of the cake. I then piped yellow icing into the centre of each blossom.

Finally I piped "Happy Mother's Day" and was good to go!

When said friend came to pick up the cake he was very pleased with it - and so, I hear, was his mum who said it was delicious!

Itsa me - Mario!

I made this cake for my son's 10th birthday - he loves Nintendo and I just had to make him a Mario themed birthday cake!

The cake is an 8" madeira with jam and vanilla buttercream filling covered in sugarpaste (fondant). I then brushed over blue lustre dust and used star shaped embossers around the sides of the cake. I piped a row of royal icing stars and piped the words freehand.

Mario himself is a bit on the portly side, but it gives him his charm! He is made out of sugarpaste (fondant), as are the two mushrooms that sit by his side. The stars that embellish the sides were cut out with a star plunger cutter and attached with a little royal icing.

I love this cake - and so did my son and his friends!
